
News Topical, Digital Desk : A joint team of Special Task Force ( STF) of South-East district of Delhi and Sunlight Colony police station arrested notorious wanted robber Lalit alias Nepali after a sensational encounter in Sarai Kale Khan area late on Tuesday (July 1).
The accused found himself surrounded and opened fire on the police team, in which ACP Lajpat Nagar Mihir Sakaria narrowly escaped. In retaliation, the police also opened fire, one of which hit Lalit's left leg, after which the police caught him. A 32 bore semi-automatic pistol, 04 live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
Long list of serious crimes
Additional DCP Aishwarya Sharma said that 32-year-old Lalit alias Nepali has been committing crimes like robbery, snatching, firing and threatening in Delhi and NCR . More than 18 criminal cases are registered against him in different police stations. The court had already declared him a fugitive in two cases. He has also been sentenced to 14 years in an armed robbery case in Saket police station area.
Serious cases of theft, robbery, Arms Act and snatching are registered against the accused in Vasant Vihar, Saket, Hauz Khas, Nizamuddin, Fatehpur Beri, Ambedkar Nagar, Maidangarhi, NF Colony, Kalkaji and even Noida Sector-24. He became active again after being released from jail.
The DCP said that on the night of July 1, the police received information that wanted criminal Lalit was planning to change his hideout around Sarai Kale Khan. As soon as the information was received, a joint team of STF and police station Sunlight Colony was formed under the leadership of ACP Mihir Sakaria . At around 1:55 pm, Lalit was seen going towards Waste to Wonder Park on a motorcycle.
On which the police surrounded him and asked him to surrender. But he started firing, one bullet of which hit ACP Sakaria's bulletproof jacket. In retaliation, the police team also fired in which the accused got injured.
Constantly changing location
From the spot, the police recovered a 32 bore semi-automatic pistol, 4 live cartridges and a stolen bike which was stolen from Sector-24 police station, Noida. During interrogation, the accused told that he was evading the police by constantly changing his hideouts in Sarai Kale Khan.
