News Topical, Digital Desk : A case of child labor has surfaced in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, and the video has now gone viral. The viral video is said to be from a school in Banjarawala, filmed by someone from their own rooftop. The video clearly shows innocent children being forced to work as laborers. The video clearly shows children carrying gravel in baskets.
When the ABP Live team spoke with the Director of Education regarding the viral video, Mukul Sati told ABP Live that the video had just come to his notice. He has asked the District Education Officer to take cognizance of the matter and order an investigation and action against the culprits.
The Education Minister was seen avoiding speaking on the video.
When the ABP Live team spoke to Uttarakhand Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat on this issue, he refused to comment. He stated bluntly, "Speak to the Director of Education about this matter. I will not comment on this matter."
Child labor cases have already come up
It should be noted that a video had previously surfaced showing a teacher getting his car washed by children. Such videos are regularly emerging from Uttarakhand. The government and administration in Uttarakhand have periodically launched campaigns against child labor. However, this video from the capital, Dehradun, has given a thumbs down to this campaign.
Watching videos like these clearly shows that more than improving the quality of education, the state needs to train teachers. The Education Department must examine the extent to which it's appropriate to force innocent children to labor in this manner. Is Uttarakhand Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat trying to conceal his own shortcomings by remaining silent on this issue? This is also a significant question.
