New Delhi: Afghanistan Cricket Board has banned young batsman Ehsanullah Janat from all cricketing activities for five years. Janat was accused of match fixing, which he has accepted.

Ehsanullah Janat was found guilty of match-fixing during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League. The Afghan player has pleaded guilty to charges of violating the ACB and ICC anti-corruption codes.

26-year-old Ehsanullah Janat made his debut in 2017. He represented Afghanistan in three Tests, 16 ODIs and one T20 International. Janat was considered a talented cricketer, who was also said to have been made to debut at a young age. This made his journey difficult.

ACB issued statement

Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code, which includes influencing or attempting to fix the result, progress or any aspect of a match. Due to the violation, Janat has been banned from all cricket-related activities for five years. Janat accepted the charges and admitted that he had engaged in corrupt activities.

Investigation started on other players

This is a big blow not only for the public but also for Afghanistan cricket. ACB has played an important role in promoting KPL, but after this incident, its credibility has come under doubt.

However, the ACB said that after finding Ehsanullah Janat guilty, the board started investigation against three other players for match fixing.

The statement said, "The anti-corruption unit of ACB has revealed that three other members are also accused of match fixing and investigation has started. Any further decision will be taken if these allegations are proved."
