Starting as an RSS volunteer at the age of 16, he became a member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh's state executive committee in 1974. He was appointed Tamil Nadu BJP secretary in 1996. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Coimbatore in 1998.
19 thousand kilometer long Rath Yatra
In 1999, he was again elected to the Lok Sabha. His supporters call him 'Modi of Tamil Nadu'. He was the President of Tamil Nadu BJP from 2004 to 2007. During his tenure, he undertook a 19 thousand kilometer long Rath Yatra which lasted for 93 days. Its objective was to link Indian rivers, eradicate terrorism, implement Uniform Civil Code, eradicate untouchability and deal with the menace of drugs.
Apart from this, he also did two other padayatras. CP Radhakrishnan, who has studied BBA, has also been the chairman of the Kochi-based Choir Board. He held this post for four years and under his leadership, the export of Choir (coconut jute) from India reached an all-time high of Rs 2,532 crore. He was also in charge of Kerala BJP from 2020 to 2022.
BJP President JP Nadda claimed that CP Radhakrishnan also made a special contribution in the elimination of TB in various states. Radhakrishnan was a college champion in table tennis and a long distance runner. He is also fond of cricket and volleyball. He is said to have played an important role in forming a new alliance for the BJP in Tamil Nadu after the DMK broke ties with the NDA in 2004.
