News Topical, Digital Desk : Jammu Kashmir Politics: In a significant political development in Jammu and Kashmir, two senior leaders who are also former ministers joined the Indian Nation Congress on Friday (June 27). Both leaders Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saroori rejoined the party in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Congress president and other party leaders. Both Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saroori had severed ties with the Congress after the formation of Ghulam Nabi Azad's Democratic Progressive Azad Party. However, he stayed there for some time and contested the 2024 assembly elections as an independent candidate.

The ceremony of joining the party took place in Srinagar in the presence of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Syed Naseer Hussain, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra and senior party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, among others.

Many people are still in touch with us- Karra

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra said that the re-joining of former ministers Taj Mohiuddin and Ghulam Mohammad Saruri will strengthen the Congress both internally and externally. Many people who left the Congress and joined other parties are still in touch with us.

'Wanted to join the party only in August 2024'

A senior party leader said, "Both the leaders had announced their decision to rejoin the Congress party in August 2024, but the decision was put on hold by the senior party leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, who asked the local leadership to wait."

This return comes after other prominent political figures Choudhary Guzlar Khatana and Muhammad Amin Bhat returned to the Congress. This has increased the party's prospects in South Kashmir, where the National Conference (NC) won 10 of the 16 seats in the 2024 elections.

'Some people are already in the pipeline'

Karra said that many people who have either left the Congress or joined other parties are still in touch with us to join. Some people are already in the pipeline under this process and many people are in touch with us and are expected to join the party in future.

'Leaving Congress was a mistake'

He said, "The joining of Taj Sahib or Saroori Sahib does not mean that they have joined personally. They have a strong presence locally and when we organise programmes in their areas you will see their impact yourself. After leaving the Congress, they formed another organisation and today they openly accepted that leaving the Congress was a mistake and they also apologised for it." He also said that they have a proper process and procedure for evaluating leaders.
