
News Topical, Digital Desk : UP News: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level review meeting on Thursday regarding the implementation of the major schemes of the Public Works Department and the upcoming strategy. In this meeting, along with senior officials of the department, all the District Magistrates of the state, public representatives of various assemblies and concerned departmental officers participated through virtual medium.
At the beginning of this meeting, the Chief Minister gave clear instructions that proposals must be received from all 75 districts of the state under the 18 major schemes of the Public Works Department by June 30. He said that the District Magistrates should coordinate with the local public representatives, prepare proposals according to the local requirements and send them within the stipulated time limit. The Chief Minister said that the benefits of development should be ensured on the basis of local requirements and not political area.
Keeping the concept of inclusive development at the center, the Chief Minister directed that all 403 assembly constituencies must get direct benefits of at least 2-3 schemes. He also said that the Bhoomi Pujan or foundation stone laying of development works should be done through local public representatives, so that the feeling of public participation in development is strengthened.
While giving important instructions towards linking religious tourism with economic empowerment, the Chief Minister said that every year the top-50 religious places of the state should be selected on the basis of their historicity, importance and number of devotees and priority should be given to the construction and strengthening of routes connecting these places. He said that better connectivity of religious places not only enriches the cultural experience but also encourages the local economy.
The Chief Minister expressed the need to look at the connectivity of the state's roads from an integrated perspective. He said that Purvanchal, Agra, Yamuna, Bundelkhand and the under-construction Ganga Expressway have given a new dimension to the east-west connectivity. Now the time has come to create a structure connecting the districts of the north and south, so that the internal movement and harmony of the state gets a new direction.
There should be no potholes on any road
He also laid special emphasis on the quality, repair and safety of roads and directed that potholes should not be seen on any road in the state. He said that overspeeding and broken roads are the main causes of road accidents, hence all dark spots should be identified and table top speed breakers should be constructed as per requirement.
Underlining the need to adopt a special strategy for areas affected by floods and excessive rainfall, the Chief Minister said that small bridges and roads are often damaged due to waterlogging. In such a situation, proposals should be prepared and sent in advance on the basis of forecast, so that work can be started as soon as the rain subsides.
Review the progress of tasks on a weekly basis
To ensure the timeliness and quality of development works, the Chief Minister directed the District Magistrates to nominate a nodal officer in each district, who reviews the progress of the works on a weekly basis. He also asked to ensure that the presence of public representatives is mandatory in the monthly and bi-monthly review meetings.
The Chief Minister gave clear instructions that suspicious or tainted contractors should be identified and action should be taken as per the need after investigation. He said that the pace of development can be sustainable and based on public trust only when honesty, transparency and public participation are ensured.

The 18 important schemes of the Public Works Department include widening and strengthening of roads for block and tehsil headquarters, major and other district roads, state highways, charitable roads, industrial and logistics parks, construction of bypasses, ring roads, flyovers in cities, widening and strengthening of roads falling on interstate/international borders and construction of gates on these, widening and strengthening of roads under Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, Central Road and Infrastructure Fund bridge bonding, construction of rail over/under bridge, long/short bridge, widening and strengthening of roads for agricultural marketing facilities in sugar mill area, road safety, reconstruction of rural roads under Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak/Unconnected Settlement Scheme and works of North South Corridor.
