News Topical, Digital Desk : Political rhetoric has intensified following the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) order to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to drop Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman from the team. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded on Tuesday (January 6). Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, "We only see sports as sports. You should ask this question to those who link sports with politics. When they look at a team, they focus on the religion of the players. They don't see anything else beyond religion. They had objections to the football team when it had more Muslim players."
The CM said, "When the number of Muslim players in the cricket team decreased, they no longer had any objection to the cricket team. Some people always bring religion into everything. They bring religion into education and sports. They have even crossed all limits with food and drink. In such a situation, what is left now? When none of their issues worked, they are busy separating Jammu."
Regarding the budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the Chief Minister said, "I cannot say anything about the budget right now. I cannot say what will be in the budget, what will not be, what will be mentioned and what will not be mentioned. Obviously, after the budget is prepared, it will be presented to the House first."
On the question of granting statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, he said, "We are prepared to face all kinds of challenges, but circumstances change. Getting back statehood is a challenge, the upcoming budget session is a challenge, and the success of the tourism season is a challenge. They have ruined Ladakh by making it a separate UT." The Chief Minister said, "Now if they want to ruin Jammu in the same way, they can make Jammu a separate state. They could not handle Ladakh. They are considering granting statehood to Jammu because their administration has failed. Do they want to make Jammu a state based on religion?"
