News Topical, Digital Desk : India iPhone Export: India has achieved a major milestone in exporting iPhones to the US. According to an estimate by research firm Omdia, iPhone exports from India to the US have jumped by 76% in the month of April. During this period, around 3 million units have been shipped. That means 3 million iPhones were sent from India to the US in April.

In contrast, iPhone shipments from China to the US fell by 76 percent to just 900,000 units. This is the first time that India has outperformed China in supplying iPhones to the US market. This is an important milestone in Apple's global manufacturing strategy.

Making iPhones in China is getting more expensive

In fact, in the month of April itself, US President Donald Trump imposed a 30 percent tariff on the export of iPhones made in China. Whereas a 10 percent tariff was imposed on imports from other countries including India.

Due to this 20 percent difference, the company started finding it expensive to manufacture iPhones in China and the company started shifting its manufacturing base to India, looking at India as an option. In our country, Tata Electronics, Foxconn and Pegatron manufacture iPhones. Focusing on many things like strong supply chain, low labor cost, government schemes, the company found it more economical to manufacture iPhones in India.

India may face a challenge

Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook had also clearly stated that most of the iPhones sold in the US during the June quarter will be manufactured in India. However, experts believe that India's manufacturing capacity is growing rapidly. It is unlikely that it will be possible for India to meet the demand of about 20 million iPhones every quarter in the US before 2026.
