News Topical, Digital Desk : China has once again set a new technological milestone. The world's longest expressway tunnel has become operational in the Xinjiang region. The tunnel is reportedly 22.13 kilometers long. Since its construction, the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel has reduced the mountain crossing time from four hours to just 20 minutes.

Work began five years ago

According to reports, construction of this tunnel began in 2020. This tunnel is part of the 324-kilometer-long Urumqi-Yuli Expressway. The expressway reduces travel time between Urumqi and Korla from seven hours to three hours.

China broke its own record

It is worth noting that the world's longest expressway tunnel previously existed in China, measuring 18.04 kilometers long. The expressway and tunnel project cost approximately ₹60,000 crore.
