Ambush attack, got a befitting reply
Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav confirmed the incident and said that accurate information was received about the presence of Maoists in the district's national park area. Based on this information, a joint team of DRG Bijapur, DRG Dantewada, and STF launched a search operation in the area.
During the operation, Naxalites, who were lying in ambush in the early morning, suddenly opened fire on the security forces. The soldiers immediately took charge and retaliated, forcing the Naxalites to retreat.
6 bodies, 4 arrested and a cache of weapons recovered
SP Yadav said that intermittent firing has been continuing since morning. So far, the bodies of six Maoists have been recovered from the encounter site and their identities are being ascertained. Four injured Maoists have also been apprehended.
A large cache of weapons was also recovered from the scene, including automatic weapons such as INSAS rifles, Sten guns, .303 rifles, explosives, and Maoist daily use items.
'Maoists have become leaderless'
IG Sundarraj P. described the operation as a "decisive and significant advance" for the security forces. He said this success came at a time when the Maoist organization was leaderless, directionless, and demoralized, confined to its few remaining bases.
Operation still underway, area cordoned off
The operation is still ongoing. Additional teams from the DRG, STF, Bastar Fighters, CRPF, and CAF police forces have been sent to the area surrounding the encounter site to surround the absconding Maoist cadres.
