News Topical, Digital Desk : Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Saturday that he had asked US President Donald Trump for an anti-tariff advertisement. He also directed Ontario Premier Doug Ford to stop airing the TV ad.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Asia-Pacific Summit in South Korea, Carney said he had personally asked Trump for a favor when they both attended a dinner hosted by the South Korean president on Wednesday.

Who is Ford ?

Carney also said he reviewed the ad with Ford before it aired, but said he opposed its use. "I told Ford I didn't want to move forward with the ad," he said. Ford is a conservative leader who is sometimes compared to Trump.

Trump attacks Canada

He used a quote from former US President Ronald Reagan in the ad, which stated that tariffs lead to trade wars and economic disaster. In response, Trump announced additional tariffs on Canada and halted trade talks.
