Less ventilators in the hospital
The SNCU run in the women's hospital admits newborns who are born in less than nine months or whose weight is less than the average. Every day 10 to 15 such children are admitted. Most of the children need ventilators, which are not available in Badaun. Earlier also a request was made for ventilators, but till now the government has not provided ventilators. Due to which newborns are dying in the absence of ventilators.
One has to wait for three hours for the warmer.
The women's hospital has the capacity of 12 warmers. But 17 to 18 newborns are admitted here all the time. One has to wait for three hours to get a newborn admitted. There have also been allegations that the staff collect money illegally and give the warmer quickly. Those who are unable to pay the money are turned away. On Saturday 14 children were admitted. When a woman from a locality of the city reached here to get her child admitted, the warmer was not empty. The woman took the child in her lap and got him treated for three hours. When the condition did not improve, the family took the child to a private hospital.
What did the hospital officials say on the matter?
CMS of Women's Hospital, Dr. Indukant Verma said that the newborns who died in SNCU were underweight. Doctors tried but could not save the lives of the children. There is no ventilator facility. When the doctors ask for referral, the relatives are not ready to take the child anywhere. Correspondence has been made to the government several times but ventilators have not been installed.
