Britain, Canada and Australia recognize Palestine as an independent nation amid US opposition

News Topical, Digital Desk : On Sunday, Britain recognized the independent Palestinian state after Israel failed to accept the ultimatum to end the war in Gaza. Canada and Australia also announced their recognition of Palestine as an independent state. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that despite repeated requests, Israel has done nothing to improve the situation in Gaza.

Britain took this step despite US opposition. Now, along with the US, Israel is also displeased with the decision by Britain, Canada, and Australia. Recognizing an independent Palestine is largely symbolic, but it is intended to pressure Israel to end the Gaza war quickly.

Raising the possibility of peace – Starmer

British Prime Minister Starmer said in a message released on X, "Today we are increasing the prospects for peace between Palestinians and Israelis. We are recognizing an independent Palestinian state, while upholding the two-nation theory." With this decision, Britain, Canada, and Australia have joined the group of more than 140 countries worldwide that have recognized an independent Palestinian state. India has already done so.

France and Germany have announced their recognition of Palestine.

Britain's recognition of the Palestinian state is even more significant because it played a major role in the formation of the Israeli nation after World War II. Nearly ten countries, including France and Germany, have already announced their recognition of the independent Palestinian state during the United Nations General Assembly meeting this week. Hassam Zomlot, head of the British Mission in London, said that by making this announcement, Britain has fulfilled its pending responsibility. We have long expected this recognition from Britain. This is a step taken for justice, peace and righting of historical wrongs.

Palestine will never be created: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently stated that there will never be an independent Palestinian state on earth. He said that countries that grant Palestinian statehood are, in effect, rewarding Hamas's monstrous terrorism.
