News Topical, Digital Desk : The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeals of the CBI, the Uttar Pradesh government and the victim families against the acquittal of Moninder Singh Pandher and his domestic help Surendra Koli by the Allahabad High Court in the 2006 Nithari serial killing case. The Supreme Court upheld the October 16, 2023 order of the Allahabad High Court, acquitting Pandher and Koli and overturning the trial court's death sentence. 

A bench of Chief Justice B R Gavai, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice K Vinod Chandran on Wednesday dismissed 14 appeals. 12 petitions were filed by the CBI and the other two petitions were filed by Pappu Lal and Anil Haldar. After a brief hearing, the Chief Justice said that there is no perversity in the decision of the Allahabad High Court. Therefore, the petitions are dismissed. 

Allahabad High Court had acquitted Pandher and Koli

Both Koli and Pandher were accused of raping and murdering children in a Noida neighbourhood in 2006. The Allahabad High Court had acquitted Pandher in two cases and Koli in 12 cases on October 16, 2023. The High Court had overturned the trial court's decision that awarded death penalty to Pandher and Koli in September 2010.

The victim's family is disappointed with the Supreme Court's decision

According to the information, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the High Court and acquitted Maninder Pandher and Surendra Kohli in almost all the cases. The CBI and the UP government had approached the Supreme Court against the decision of the Allahabad High Court. 

The victim families of the Nithari case became emotional after the Supreme Court's decision. The skeleton of Jyoti, the 10-year-old daughter of Jhabu Lal and Sunita, who worked as a pressman in Nithari, was also found. Jyoti's parents said that we did not get justice. Something wrong has happened. The victim families said that both are accused and they should be hanged. They should not be acquitted.
