News Topical, Digital Desk : This is the second recent instance of Energy Minister AK Sharma suspending the junior engineer and sub-divisional officer of the Barabanki division and dismissing a lineman. In November, the junior engineer and sub-divisional officer of the Umra substation were suspended in connection with a 3,000 kilowatt connection in the industrial unit Kursi area. Department in shock due to action
Ramjee, wife of Suresh, a resident of Bhatouli Kala, connected to the Barabanki division, had applied for a new electricity connection, but for a two kilowatt domestic connection, her son Vimal Kumar was continuously making rounds of the junior engineer, subdivision officer office and the executive engineer's office in Badel.
Vimal alleges that contract lineman Manish Verma demanded a bribe of 15,000 rupees for the connection, which he refused to pay. He had also applied for the connection several times, making rounds of other electricity department officials. On Monday, as part of Energy Minister AK Sharma's Sambhav Sampark Seva Samadhan public hearing, the victim Vimal explained his problem.
It is alleged that the electricity department prepared an exorbitant estimate of 339,967 rupees for the connection, which was more than the value of his house. Taking action in the matter, the Energy Minister suspended Sub-Divisional Officer (Second) Anubhav Srivastava and Junior Engineer Ravi Verma, while issuing orders for the dismissal of contract lineman Manish Verma.
Instructions were issued to remove the Executive Engineer. Superintendent Engineer Rajbala stated that the junior engineer has been suspended and the contract lineman has been dismissed. She is unaware of the suspension of the subdivision officer and the removal of the Executive Engineer. A written order has not yet been received in this regard.
SDO and JE of Kursi have been suspended
On November 1, 2025, Anil Kumar Pal, junior engineer at the Umra power substation, and Sarvesh Kumar Pal, SDO at the Kursi power substation, were also suspended in connection with the recovery case related to the 3,000 kilowatt connection of the Kursi industrial unit. The MD ordered an investigation. The investigation committee found the SDO and junior engineer guilty and the suspensions were carried out.
