News Topical, Digital Desk : Mumbai Police have uncovered a major fraud and arrested Bangladeshi national M.H. Iclaj Molla, who had been living illegally in India for the past two decades. Police investigations revealed that the accused entered India illegally in 2005 and had been living in the country continuously since then, obtaining citizenship documents and passports using fake identities.
Where was the accused caught?
A team from the Sahar police station detained the accused at Mumbai airport. According to reports, Mollah arrived in Mumbai from Kuwait on Indigo flight 6E-1236 on October 14, 2025. During immigration checks, discrepancies were found in his documents, and the entire matter came to light during interrogation.
Fake passports and foreign travel
The investigation also revealed that Mollah obtained an Indian passport in 2014 at the Kolkata Passport Office using a fake name and address. He used this fake passport for numerous international travels. The official said the accused defrauded not only the Indian Passport Authority but also the Mumbai Immigration Department.
Police have learned that the accused used this fake passport to obtain a job in Kuwait and purchase property in Kolkata. For the past 11 years, he has been living in Kuwait, renewing his passport through the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, claiming to be an Indian citizen.
Sahar police have currently registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS. Authorities are now investigating how Mollah obtained Indian citizenship documents and how he repeatedly traveled abroad for so many years without being caught. The accused has been taken into custody and deportation proceedings have been immediately initiated to send a strong message to prevent such frauds in the future.
