News Topical, Digital Desk : The Bangladesh Election Commission has issued a directive banning the use of mobile phones within 400 yards of polling stations on February 12. Right-wing political parties have launched protests against this directive and have threatened to surround the commission's office if the decision is not reversed.
The directive states, "No person shall be permitted to enter or remain within 400 yards of a polling station with a mobile phone. This restriction shall apply to voters, polling agents and all persons on election duty, with certain limited exceptions."
These people will be out of order
It also said that only the presiding officer, the officer in charge of police deployed at the centres and two authorised para-police Ansar members deployed on election duty will be outside the purview of this order.
Meanwhile, Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rehman has warned of launching an agitation if the directive is not withdrawn.
