According to police sources, four masked men arrived at the apartment in a white Swift Dzire car. The robbers were armed with pistols and knives. They overpowered the businessman's wife, Karabi Deka, and the family's car driver.
The four robbers entered the house and carried out the robbery in about 40 minutes. They fled with a large amount of cash, gold jewelry, and other valuables.
Anil Deka was not at home when the robbers broke in; he had gone to drop off his daughter, who was studying abroad. According to reports, the robbers were aware of his absence and planned the robbery accordingly.
