News Topical, Digital Desk : Arvind Kejriwal will not be contesting the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. Businessman Rajendra Gupta, owner of the Trident Group, will be the Aam Aadmi Party's candidate for the Rajya Sabha. Gupta was appointed to the Punjab Planning Board by the Aam Aadmi Party government in 2022. Gupta has resigned from that position. He will now be elected to the Rajya Sabha, filling the vacant seat vacated by Sanjeev Arora's victory in the Ludhiana West by-election. His name is yet to be formally announced.
Arvind Kejriwal had already denied it.
It's worth noting that ever since Sanjeev Arora was announced as the candidate for the assembly by-election, discussions began about who AAP would send to the upper house of Parliament. The name of the party's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, first came up in the discussion. Opposition parties in Punjab claimed that Kejriwal would be elected to the Rajya Sabha. Later, Kejriwal himself dismissed the speculation and stated that he would not be.
Sanjeev Arora won by a margin of over 10,000 votes.
In June of this year, Sanjeev Arora won the Ludhiana West by-election by a margin of over 10,000 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu. BJP's Jeevan Gupta came in third. While Arora received 35,179 votes, Ashu received 24,525 votes. After winning the by-election, Sanjeev Arora resigned from his membership in the upper house of Parliament and was later appointed a minister in Punjab. Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora holds a total of three portfolios.
