News Topical, Digital Desk : Russia's phytosanitary monitoring agency has said that India could increase its supply of bananas to the Russian market. The agency, which approves the import of agricultural products from abroad, said that Russia could import up to 500,000 metric tons of bananas from India. The organization said that Russia is ready to accept 300,000 to 500,000 metric tons of Indian bananas per year.
The head of the organization, Sergei Dankvart, held talks with representatives of the Indian Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in this regard. The two sides discussed opportunities to increase reciprocal supplies of agricultural products, including shrimp and fish products, from India to Russia, as well as expanding the supply of other Indian fruits and vegetables to the country's market. India is the world's largest producer of bananas, with an annual production of 33 million tons.
It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier announced that before his visit to New Delhi in the first week of December, he has ordered the government to take steps to reduce the trade imbalance with India.
