A fire broke out in the neuro-intensive care unit (NICU) ward of SMS Hospital in Jaipur late last night. Eight people have died so far. Nearly a dozen fire brigades responded to the scene to control the blaze, and it was brought under control late last night.

Several local leaders also visited the hospital after the incident. This is when news of Raunak Khatri's detention emerged. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also arrived at the hospital late that night, and given the seriousness of the matter, a high-level committee was formed.
Leaders expressed grief and demanded an investigation
Senior leaders across the country, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have expressed condolences over the tragedy. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also visited SMS Hospital and met with the families of the deceased and injured. He has demanded a judicial inquiry from the government.
