News Topical, Digital Desk : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday (October 6 ) that her government will seek permission to use certified green firecrackers on Diwali. She will make this request to the Supreme Court. She said the government will submit its position to the court in writing and will seek permission for safe firecrackers that comply with all government regulations and environmental standards.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this step will strike a balance between public sentiment and environmental protection. This will allow festivals to be celebrated joyfully and responsibly. She said that Diwali is a significant part of India's cultural heritage. Considering the sentiments of millions of Delhiites during the festival , the government will seek an exemption from the court for green firecrackers.

Will promote eco-friendly festivals

The Chief Minister reiterated the Delhi government's firm resolve to curb pollution and protect the environment. He promised full cooperation in implementing every order of the Supreme Court. He said that if the court permits, only certified green firecrackers will be used. These firecrackers must be manufactured by recognized institutions and approved by the competent authorities. The government will promote environmentally friendly celebrations by following public safety rules.

Banned firecrackers seized

Delhi Police seized over 1,700 kilograms of banned firecrackers in several raids across the capital just before Diwali this month, an official said on Sunday (October 5). They also arrested seven people. Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Kumar said the Crime Branch conducted these raids in Dwarka, Rohini, Uttam Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Mukundpur, and Shahdara.

He said that these campaigns are based on recent Supreme Court orders prohibiting the storage and sale of firecrackers to prevent air pollution and protect the public. Delhi's air quality remains poor from October through the winter.
