News Topical, Digital Desk : Amidst the cooking gas crisis, oil companies have found a way to increase their revenue under the guise of providing convenience to the public. They have begun focusing on selling Free Trade LPG (FTL) to customers struggling to secure new cooking gas connections and refill their small cylinders.

This facility will allow this cylinder to be purchased not only from LPG agencies but also from petrol pumps and authorized shops. This means that customers can purchase the cylinder from anywhere. A connection can be obtained by simply submitting a photocopy of their Aadhaar card and paying the prescribed price. Oil companies have already begun shipping these cylinders to agencies.

The 14.2 kg LPG cylinder is no longer available without a connection. Those who have a connection are able to book it only after 25 days in metropolitan cities and 45 days in rural areas. Workers, people living away from home, and those without connections used to arrange for cylinders by paying a little extra money, but now this system has ended. People are upset by this.

Indian Oil has a name called Chhotu.
Oil companies had started manufacturing cylinders weighing five kg and two kg long ago. Due to the easy availability of domestic gas cylinders, people did not wish to buy them. Now, with the increased availability, the sale of this cylinder is sure to increase. Indian Oil sells it under the name Chhotu, Bharat Petroleum Bharat Gas Mini and Hindustan Petroleum Appu.

Domestic gas is available at Rs 69 per kg, FTL at Rs 126.
A five-kilogram FTL cylinder is available at two prices: FTL at Rs 597 and FTL POS at Rs 633. Considering the price of a five-kilogram cylinder is Rs 633, the cost per kilogram of gas is Rs 126.6.

Whereas the maximum price per kilogram of 14.2 kg domestic gas is Rs 69. There is a system of selling FTL POS cylinders at petrol pumps and authorized shops, whereas FTL cylinders will be available at LPG agencies. One will have to spend Rs 1541 for a new FTL connection and Rs 1577 for a new FTL POS connection.

Gas is being sold in black at Rs 400 per kilogram.
Those who cook food on small cylinders are getting gas in black at the rate of Rs 400 per kilogram. People are upset because of this. Oil company officials say that availability of 5 kg cylinders will control black marketers. This will stop economic exploitation of people.
