News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reignited diplomatic tensions with his scathing remarks on Afghanistan and terrorism. He is currently on a visit to Washington. He indirectly blamed the US and regional circumstances for Pakistan's internal security challenges.
Zardari claimed that Pakistan has suffered because of the way the US withdrew from Afghanistan and left behind military equipment there. He alleged that these equipment have now fallen into the hands of terrorist organisations.
What did Bilawal Bhutto say about America?
"We talk about terrorism, we talk about Afghanistan, we talk about other things. We have discussed this relationship over the last few decades," he said, underlining that these themes dominate Pakistan's relations with the US. Without acknowledging Pakistan's own widely alleged role in fostering terrorism in its neighbourhood over the years, the PPP chairman emphasised on greater regional and international cooperation to combat terrorism.
‘Pakistan is also fighting terrorists’
He said, "After Kabul, what are we going to do to deal with the remaining terrorism - we need more regional and international cooperation in this. As far as weapons are concerned, you will be surprised to hear that sometimes we are fighting terrorist organizations on Pakistani territory itself who buy weapons left in Afghanistan from the black market and these weapons are more advanced than the weapons of the policemen they are fighting against."
Pakistan has not reacted to Bilawal Bhutto's remarks
Although Afghanistan has not yet reacted to Zardari's remarks, it has warned Islamabad against making provocative allegations that could destabilise already fragile bilateral ties.
Political analyst Mohammad Zalmai Afghan Yar criticised Islamabad's tone, saying, "Pakistan is threatening countries in the region. The Afghan government has announced an economy-focused policy. Can Pakistan send the same message to Afghanistan? Can Pakistan give up its economic bargaining and avoid collaborating with the US in creating more problems for the Afghan government?"
