News Topical, Digital Desk : Lucknow News: Samajwadi Party national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a major attack on the economic policies of the central government. He said that manufacturing and production (productivity) in the country is continuously declining, due to which common people are not able to get jobs and employment. He alleged that in the name of self-reliance, the government is only making the country a 'selling agent' of foreign companies.

Akhilesh Yadav said that big business houses in the country are now focusing on trading (buying and selling) instead of production. This is causing losses to small industries, the value of raw material, talent and local skills of our country is continuously decreasing. He said that today when self-reliant India is talked about from every platform, the government is making deals with foreign companies behind the scenes, which has further increased the pressure on India's economy.

The gap between the rich and the poor is increasing.
The SP president said that due to this policy of the government, the rich are becoming richer while the poor are becoming poorer. He called it a "contradictory economic policy" and said that on the stage there is talk of self-reliance, but in reality foreign goods are being imported and sold.

He raised the question that when the government itself looks like an 'elephant's tooth' - it says one thing and does another - then what will happen to the country? He said that real development should not be measured by the figures of GDP or trillion dollar economy, but by how much the per capita income of the common people has increased and how much the income inequality has reduced.

Youth, farmers and businessmen all feel cheated
Akhilesh Yadav said that the economic policies of the BJP government have caused the most harm to the youth, farmers and small businessmen. He said that inflation is constantly increasing, job opportunities have reduced and the youth are forced to migrate. He said that under the BJP government, farmers are in a bad condition, the business class is troubled by the policies of the government and the youth are frustrated.

Falling manufacturing and rising unemployment
According to government data, the contribution of the manufacturing sector in India's GDP is continuously decreasing. While this contribution was around 16-17% in 2011-12, now it has come down to around 13%. On the other hand, the unemployment rate (according to CMIE) was around 7.8% in April 2025, which shows that employment opportunities have not increased. In such a situation, it is natural for the policies of the government to come under the target of opposition parties. Akhilesh Yadav appealed to the government to understand the situation of the youth and laborers of the country and make such policies which actually lead to a self-reliant India.
