News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is celebrating his 55th birthday today. On this occasion, all Congress leaders and other allies are wishing him. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav congratulated him on his birthday in a special way. Yadav, the head of SP, a major component of the opposition parties' group 'India' (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), said in his congratulatory message in a post on his official X account, “Heartiest congratulations to Shri Rahul Gandhi ji on his birthday and best wishes for cordial, inclusive, accommodative overall socio-political activism!”

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has also congratulated and wished party leader Rahul Gandhi on his birthday. In his congratulatory message on “X”, Rai said, “Many many congratulations from the bottom of my heart to our beloved leader Rahul Gandhi, the fearless voice of the people of India, a visionary and forward-looking leader, an embodiment of patience and determination, full of compassion and kindness, who can digest hatred and malice like Shiva, on his birthday.” In the same post, he said, “I pray to Baba Vishwanath ji for your long life. May you always keep fighting for the pain and suffering of the people and the dignity and self-respect of Mother India. Har Har Mahadev!” 

Political Career of Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi was born on June 19, 1970 in New Delhi. He is the eldest child of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He is currently an MP from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. He started his political career in 2004, when he contested and won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, his father's traditional seat. He was subsequently elected MP from Amethi in 2009 and 2014 as well. In 2007, he was appointed Congress General Secretary. In 2013, he became the Vice President of the Congress. In 2017, he took over as the President of the Indian National Congress, but resigned after the party's defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi lost the Amethi seat to Smriti Irani, but he also contested from Wayanad in Kerala and won from there. After this, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi won both the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad seat in Kerala. He decided to retain the Rae Bareli seat. His sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the MP from Wayanad seat.
