News Topical, Digital Desk : The combined electoral rolls of nine states and three Union Territories have seen a reduction of around 6.08 crore after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was completed on Friday.
The second phase of SIR of voter lists is now complete, with Uttar Pradesh releasing its final voter list. Final voter lists have been published for Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa.
Before the process began, the list was worth Rs 51 crore.
According to data shared by the Chief Electoral Officers of these states and the Election Commission (EC) over the past few months, the combined voter list of these states and Union Territories stood at around 51 crore when the SIR was announced on October 27 last year.
The combined voter list after SIR is approximately 449.2 million, a reduction of 60.8 million. However, this process was already completed in Bihar. Now, the second phase has been completed in 12 states and union territories, covering approximately 510 million voters.
Of the country's 99 crore voters, 60 crore have already been enrolled in the campaign, with the remaining 40 crore voters in 17 states and five union territories to be included when the SIR is launched in those places, likely after the five assembly elections this month.
How many voters decreased where?
After Gujarat, the largest voter decline occurred in UP.
If seen on the basis of percentage, after Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh is the second state where the voter turnout has decreased the most. In Gujarat, the voter turnout was 13.40 percent, whereas in Uttar Pradesh, the voter turnout has decreased by 13.24 percent. In Chhattisgarh, the vote count has decreased by 11.77 percent, in Bengal by 11.61 percent, in Tamil Nadu by 11.55 percent, in Goa by 10.76 percent, in Puducherry by 7.57 percent, in Madhya Pradesh by 5.97 percent, in Bihar by 5.95 percent, in Rajasthan by 5.74 percent and in Kerala by 3.22 percent.

- Lucknow saw the highest decline of 22.89 percent in voter turnout, with fewer women voters than men.
- 84.28 lakh voters increased in the final list compared to the draft voter list.

The situation in Bengal
Nearly 9.1 million names were removed from the voter list in West Bengal during the SIR, a process that has been ongoing since November, according to the Election Commission.
According to the Commission's data as of February 28, 63.66 lakh names were deleted since the SIR began, reducing the number of voters from around 7.66 crore to 7.04 crore. With subsequent scrutiny and completion of the process, the total number of deleted names has risen to around 90.83 lakh.
