News Topical, Digital Desk : On Thursday, during checking on the information of an informer, the Cyber Police Station Rani Ki Sarai arrested Adil Hussain, a resident of Parsa alias Agalhawa village of Gorakhpur, from Pakauli market, who was accused of defrauding crores of rupees by posing as a fake cyber officer.
A mobile phone was recovered from him during the search. The arrested accused had extorted ₹34,87,998 from people under the pretext of implicating them in lawsuits and transferred the money to various accounts. Police are now investigating these accounts.
Cyber police station in-charge Devendra Pratap Singh said that on January 17, 2025, Nagendra Mishra, a resident of Jhotipu village in the Maharajganj police station area, had lodged a complaint against an unknown person.
The complainant stated that two days ago, an unknown person called him on his mobile phone, claiming to be a cybercrime officer, and said that a money laundering case had been filed against him. He was then intimidated and forced to deposit ₹34,87,998 into various accounts under the pretext of settling the case.
During the investigation, the cyber police arrested Kaushik Sarvaiya and Bhagirath Singh Jala and sent them to jail on June 21, 2025. During this time, the name of the accused also came to light, and the police arrested him.
