
News Topical, Digital Desk : Bihar News: A major accident occurred in Katihar on Thursday (May 22, 2025) while opening the shuttering of the septic tank of the toilet. Two workers died on the spot due to suffocation and the condition of four others deteriorated. The injured workers were taken to the local hospital for treatment. Two had to be referred to Purnia Sadar Hospital in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Manoj Mahato (age 45 years) and Ranjit Singh (age 35 years).
The incident is of Rameli village under Rotara police station area of Kodha. It is being told that after the construction of the toilet, the workers were busy opening the shuttering of the septic tank. Suddenly, the health of one worker deteriorated. To save their friend, other workers got down into the safety tank. While trying to save him, all of them fainted one by one.

The news of the workers falling unconscious created a stir. A huge crowd of people gathered at the spot. A rescue operation was carried out with the help of JCB. The villagers pulled out two dead from the septic tank. Four others were taken to the hospital in an unconscious state. Seeing the condition of two, they were referred to Purnia Sadar Hospital.

Two are being treated in the village. Bahrkhal Panchayat Mukhiya representative Vijay Singh Kushwaha reached the spot. He said that the accident happened due to lack of adequate security arrangements. The local administration has been informed about the incident. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot. Investigation of the case has been started. There is grief and anger among the villagers after the incident. People have demanded the observance of safety standards in construction work.
