Lagaan movie story and honor

Lagaan, released in 2001, is a period sports drama film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan not only played the lead role in it, but also produced it. The film had a brilliant cast like Gracy Singh, Suhasini Mulay, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raghubir Yadav, Rajendra Gupta, and British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne. The story is set in a village during the British Raj in 1893, where people are troubled by drought and heavy taxes.

Aamir Khan's character Bhuvan inspires the villagers to play a cricket match against the British officers so that taxes can be waived off. The film received great appreciation for its story, songs and acting. It received a nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Oscar Awards, which was a matter of pride for Indian cinema.
