News Topical, Digital Desk : In the Rs 2,000 crore cough syrup smuggling case, the Police Commissionerate's SIT (Special Investigation Team) on Monday arrested Vaibhav Jaiswal, the main accused who was involved in transferring the smuggled money through hawala.
He is said to be close to the gang leader, Shubham Jaiswal. Vaibhav, a resident of Daranagar, Varanasi, was responsible for transferring money earned from cough syrup smuggling through hawala channels. During interrogation, he revealed that the gang transacted approximately ₹50 crore (approximately $50 million) daily.
Vaibhav's arrest is expected to lead to a major expose of this network. He revealed that the gang used to make payments worth crores of rupees using 10 rupee notes. Each person receiving the money was given a 10 rupee note with a specific number.
The hawala gang would then send a photo of the note to the payer via WhatsApp. Once the note matched, the transaction, worth crores of rupees, was considered complete.
The SIT has so far arrested several accused in this case, including Prashant Pathak, Manoj Yadav, and his son, Lakshya Yadav. Several gang members were arrested from the Nepal border and brought to Varanasi.
