Following outrage among villagers, the police swung into action. They were successful in arresting the accused in an encounter late at night.

Late Thursday evening, a young man from a village on the banks of the Varanasi four-lane in Kotwali Dehat lured a 6-year-old girl playing outside her house and took her to the canal bank in Siwan and tried to rape her.

When people became aware of this, the accused fled the scene. The family was informed when the girl arrived crying. The incident was then reported to the rural police station.

Local police and officials arrived at the scene after receiving information and began investigating the incident. The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment. Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and continued efforts to apprehend the accused.

Police caught the accused in an encounter

The accused, who attempted to rape a girl, was apprehended by the Kotwali Dehat police in a shootout early Friday morning. The accused was shot in his right leg. He has been sent to Sultanpur District Hospital for treatment. Rural Kotwal Dharambir Singh said that the police is on the spot and investigation and action is being taken into the incident.
