News Topical, Digital Desk : In Vijayawada, an unknown person called the police control room and informed about a bomb on Besant Road, after which panic spread in the area due to the rumour of a bomb. However, after the information about the bomb, the bomb disposal squad started a search operation at the spot.

 

As soon as the bomb threat was received, the police temporarily closed the shops on Besant Road as a precautionary measure. The area was thoroughly searched. Governorpet Inspector Naga Murali said that an unknown person had called the control room and threatened about a bomb.

 

There was a rumour that there was a bomb

"We conducted a search operation with the help of the bomb disposal squad but no explosives were found. Investigation has been started and detailed information is awaited," the police officer said.

 

Two terrorists were arrested

Meanwhile, on Monday, officials said that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police arrested two suspected terrorists from Hyderabad in a joint operation. They were allegedly planning to carry out bomb blasts.

 

The accused have been identified as Syed Sameer, 27, a lift technician from Bhoiguda in Secunderabad, and Siraj ur Rehman, a resident of Vijayanagaram, who were allegedly planning to test the explosive devices before hatching a larger conspiracy of bomb blasts.

 

Explosives were ordered from e-commerce platforms

According to the police, Siraj was the mastermind of the conspiracy while Sameer was allegedly helping him in carrying out the conspiracy to carry out explosive activities. Siraj had purchased explosive making material including explosive components through various e-commerce platforms.

 

The Vijayanagaram Town-2 police produced the two in the local district court, which remanded them to judicial custody for two weeks. They have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) for conspiring to commit terrorist activities and disturbing public peace, an official said.

 

Both will be questioned further

Visakhapatnam Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Gopinath JT confirmed over the phone that the arrested persons have links with terrorist activities. The counter-intelligence officers are expected to file a petition in the court seeking police custody of the accused for further interrogation and evidence collection.
