The matter of 104 immigrants sent from America to India is being discussed across the country. On Thursday (February 6), opposition MPs created a ruckus on this issue in both the houses of Parliament. Opposition MPs asked the government why illegal immigrants were treated like prisoners. Why were handcuffs put on their hands?

Why were illegal immigrants sent in handcuffs?

The biggest question is what does the US law say regarding the deportation of illegal immigrants?

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has responded to this question. He said that US deportation is managed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and the protocols associated with it are followed.

He further said that since 2012, some rules have been made by ICE to deport illegal immigrants. However, we have been informed by Customs Enforcement that women and children were not handcuffed.

Are illegal immigrants allowed to be handcuffed?

According to a report by NBC, US immigration officials follow a structured process when detaining and deporting individuals. According to ICE rules, there are rules to chain the hands and feet of illegal immigrants on the plane. However, the handcuffs and shackles must be removed immediately once the plane reaches its destination.

Let us tell you that illegal migrants are not allowed to carry any luggage during deportation. However, one bag weighing up to 18 kg is allowed, but the officers check that bag. Illegal migrants are handcuffed and tied with leg shackles after boarding the plane.

During deportation, 13 to 20 security personnel are present in the plane. Medical staff is also present to deal with any health emergency. Food is also provided to illegal migrants. According to the rule, people cannot be tied up during toilet breaks.
