But the Raleigh Act is the first law he has signed after assuming office. This law was named after Laken Raleigh, a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia, who was murdered by an illegal immigrant.

Trump said that under the law I am signing today, the Department of Homeland Security will be required to detain all illegal aliens who have been arrested for theft, burglary, assault on a police officer, murder, or any crime that results in death or serious injury to another person.

Bill introduced in Senate to ban birthright citizenship
Republican senators introduced a bill in the Senate to ban birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants and non-immigrants on temporary visas. The US is one of the 33 countries in the world where there is no ban on birthright citizenship. This step has been taken after the court put a stay on Trump's order.
Over 7,000 Indian students and visitors overstayed in US in 2023
Jessica M Van of the Center for Immigration Studies suggested several reforms in immigration policy to the US House Committee on the Judiciary, including reforms related to H-1B visas. She said that more than 7,000 students and visitors from India overstayed in 2023. She said that 32 countries have overstay rate of students/visitors more than 20 percent.

The F and M visa categories have the highest overstay rates of any broad category of temporary admission. The F-1 visa allows an individual to enter the United States as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, academic high school, elementary school, or other educational institution or language training program.
Wan said Brazil, China, Colombia and India each had more than 2,000 citizens overstaying student/exchange visas in 2023, with Indians accounting for the highest number at 7,000.
