The problem of traffic jam in the capital Dehradun is getting worse day by day. This city, which was once considered calm and well-organized, is now constantly struggling due to traffic. Long queues of vehicles can be seen on the city roads throughout the day. Especially during office and school-college hours, vehicles are seen crawling on the roads, due to which the common people are facing a lot of problems.
The main reason for traffic jam in Dehradun is the rapidly increasing number of vehicles. The city is overcrowded with private vehicles, while the limited public transport facility is also worsening the situation. Apart from this, haphazard parking, encroachment and vehicles parked on the roadside are further aggravating the problem of jam.
Meanwhile, the beginning of the Chardham Yatra and tourist season has posed a big challenge to the police and administration. Regarding this issue, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh said that the police department faces many big challenges regarding the traffic system. He said, "Dehradun is an education hub and lakhs of students come here for studies. Apart from this, the pressure of vehicles increases in the city due to the tourist season and Chardham Yatra. We have increased the number of traffic lights and action is being taken against those who break traffic rules using technology."
SSP Ajay Singh also informed that automatic challan system has been started in the city. Under this, overspeeding vehicles are being identified and e-challan is being issued on them. Also, a proposal has been placed before the district administration regarding the serious traffic problem, so that an effective solution can be found in the future.
District Magistrate (DM) Dehradun Savin Bansal has also talked about taking several important steps to improve the traffic system. He said that there were many junctions in the city where there was no traffic light system. “We have identified 11 such junctions and installed traffic lights there. Apart from this, a plan is also being worked on to enable traffic lights through Artificial Intelligence (AI).”
DM Bansal said that to solve the traffic problem of the city, an integrated control system is being developed so that traffic can be operated and monitored under a centralized system. Also, work is going on to develop an automatic parking system so that haphazard parking on the roadside can be stopped.
Despite these efforts of the administration and the police department, the citizens struggling with traffic jams are now hoping for a quick solution. Experts believe that long-term planning, use of smart technology and public participation are necessary to solve the traffic problem in Dehradun.
Dehradun's traffic problem is no longer just a challenge for the traffic police or the administration, but it has become a matter related to the overall development of the city. If concrete steps are not taken in this direction in time, this problem will not only affect the daily routine of the people, but can also harm the tourism and educational importance of the city.
