The Home Ministry has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess the damage caused by rain and floods in Gujarat. Led by the Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the team will soon visit the flood-affected districts of Gujarat.

This information was given by the ministry on Sunday. It said that due to the deep depression formed over Gujarat and Rajasthan last week, Gujarat received extremely heavy rainfall on 26 and 27 August. This caused floods in the state and caused a lot of damage. During this, more than 30 people died.

 

Teams will be sent to other states as well

Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were also affected by heavy rainfall. Himachal Pradesh too has witnessed several incidents of heavy rainfall, cloudburst and landslides this year. The statement said that the Home Ministry is in touch with senior officials of other states and if they report extensive damage, IMCT will be sent there too.

The statement said that the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fully committed to provide all possible assistance to the affected states. IMCT has also been formed for Nagaland, which will soon visit the affected areas of the state. The statement said that in the past, IMCT used to visit disaster-affected states only after receiving a request in this regard from the state government.

 

24 crocodiles rescued from residential areas in Vadodara

Recently, a total of 24 crocodiles were rescued from residential areas amid heavy rains in Vadodara, Gujarat. Due to heavy rains, the water level of Vishwamitri river rose well above the danger mark and its water entered many areas of the city. Vadodara Range Forest Officer Karan Singh Rajput said that there are a total of 440 crocodiles in the river.

Many of them had entered residential areas due to floods caused by the release of water from the Ajwa dam. He said that apart from 24 crocodiles, we also rescued 75 other animals including snakes, cobras, five large turtles weighing about 40 kg and a seh.

 

Heavy rains continue in Telangana

According to IANS, heavy rains continued in many parts of Telangana including Hyderabad on Sunday and life was badly affected. Many road and rail routes were blocked. On Sunday, a woman died after her car got caught in the flood in Mehboobabad, while her father is missing. Apart from this, two people are feared to have been swept away in two separate incidents in Khammam district.

Due to heavy rains and waterlogging on tracks at many places, the railways had to cancel 99 trains and divert 54 trains. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the emergency with ministers, officials and public representatives and issued necessary guidelines. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in 11 districts of Telangana, predicting extremely heavy rains during the next 24 hours. These include Mahbubnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadardi Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy and Kamareddy.
