Clashes broke out during the immersion procession of the idol of Goddess Kali in Cuttack, Odisha on Sunday night. 6 people are reported to be injured in this incident. The clash started after a dispute between two groups in the Chandni Chowk area of the city. Police said on Monday that the situation worsened when people from both the groups started throwing stones and bottles at each other.
Police said that during the incident, a shop and three bikes were vandalised. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. An official said that Lalbagh police have registered a case and started investigation.
Policeman attacked during idol immersion in Agra
Meanwhile, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, two people were arrested for attacking a policeman during idol immersion. A police officer gave this information on Tuesday. The officer said that on Sunday, during idol immersion at Samogar Ghat, some people attacked Biseribhaad outpost in-charge Mukesh Kumar, in which he was seriously injured. He said that the incident happened when during the immersion, two people started breaking the barriers towards the Yamuna river to forcefully immerse the idol.
The officer said that Kumar stopped them, on which the accused got angry and attacked him. He said that in the attack, the policeman was thrown down and beaten and his uniform was also torn. However, the policemen and people present there rescued him from the clutches of the attackers. SHO Bamrauli Katara Saurabh Singh said that in this case, a case has been registered against two accused Virendra and Rakesh and legal action is being taken. He said that the accused are residents of Shyamo village of Tajganj police station area.
