New Delhi: The Indian government has sent a notice to Wikipedia. This notice mentions the complaints made against it in the past months and things like bias. It states why Wikipedia should not be considered a publisher instead of a mediator.
Also, the Delhi High Court has reprimanded Wikipedia for wrongly editing the page of Asian News International (ANI). A few days ago, the Delhi High Court had also said that if someone does not like India, he can leave the country.
What did the court say?
The Delhi High Court has said that if someone's Wikipedia page is edited wrongly and the company supports him in that, then it is completely wrong. Justice Subramaniam Prasad said that if he himself calls himself a mediator, then what problem do you have with it. If something has been edited wrongly, then Wikipedia should not stand with him at all.
what is the whole matter
This controversy took root when someone edited ANI's Wikipedia page and wrote that it is a propaganda tool of the government. Along with this, many things were wrongly edited on the Wikipedia page. At that time, the court had said that the names of those who have wrongly edited ANI's Wikipedia page should be disclosed. Wikipedia refused to do so.
When did it start?
Wikipedia was started in the year 2001. It was started by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. In the year 2003, it was also launched in Hindi. According to information, every month 1.7 billion users use Wikipedia for information. These users also get the facility to edit the content, due to which many times people edit wrong things here.
