News Topical, Digital Desk : Whenever beautiful actresses of the 60s-70s are mentioned in Hindi cinema, Mumtaz's name comes to mind first. Her journey is no less than a film script. Her beginning was very humble, but the path was full of difficulties and finally she saw a life full of glamour. There was a time when Mumtaz was considered only a 'heroine for hire' of stunt films.
Born on 31 July 1947 in Mumbai, Mumtaz's real name was Mumtaz Begum Jahan Dehlavi. She entered the film world as a child artist at the age of just 11. She kept moving forward on the strength of her confidence and hard work.
In these films, Mumtaz was sometimes seen wielding swords, and sometimes doing stunts by climbing trees. She fought many villains in films and played action-packed roles. Mumtaz worked with Dara Singh in about 16 films, out of which 12 films were successful at the box office. The industry awarded her the tag of 'heroine of stunt films'.
Won hearts with her acting
However, this tag also kept her away from big banners and star heroes. Many actors, especially names like Shashi Kapoor and Jeetendra, were reluctant to work with her, but Mumtaz did not give up. Through the 1967 film 'Ram Aur Shyam' and the 1969 film 'Do Raaste', she showed people that she could not only perform stunt scenes, but could also perform emotional and romance scenes very well. After this, she played lead roles in films like 'Bandhan', 'Sachcha Jhootha', 'Khilona', 'Roti', 'Chor Machaye Shor', and 'Aapki Kasam' and gave superhit performances.
In 1970, she received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her strong performance in the film 'Khilona'. Apart from this, she was also awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996.
