Bahraich News: The situation in and around violence-affected Maharajganj town of Bahraich seems to be returning to normal on Wednesday, although mobile internet services remained suspended for the third consecutive day and vigilance has been increased on the Nepal border. A senior officer said that in view of the situation in Bahraich, which shares an international border with Nepal, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has increased vigilance on the border.
In fact, on Sunday, 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra was shot dead and about six people were injured in stone pelting and firing when communal violence broke out during the idol immersion procession on the occasion of Durga Puja in Bahraich. Heavy police force has been deployed in the district, especially in a radius of 20 kilometers of Maharajganj town of Mahsi tehsil and the police took action in this matter. By Tuesday evening, more than 50 suspects were arrested and five separate FIRs were registered in the case of violence and arson.
A local police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that no untoward incident has been reported since Tuesday. After the violence on Sunday and Monday, the situation is now under control. The situation in other parts of the district was reported to be normal, markets remained open and people were busy with their work. SSB 42nd Battalion Commandant Ganga Singh Udawat said that as per the instructions received from the headquarters, security was increased on the border immediately after Sunday's incident.
Internet shutdown has affected business
Ganga Singh Udawat said, we have also spoken to the Armed Police Force of Nepal and asked them to check any unnecessary movement of people on the India-Nepal border through Rupaidiha (Bahraich) and increase frisking there. The SSB officer said that the movement on the border here usually increases during Dussehra, which is also an important festival in Nepal. Local business has also been affected due to the shutdown of internet services.
Gauri Shankar Bhaniramka, president of the Bahraich chapter of the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal, said that the suspension of internet services has affected business in the district. He said that business worth crores has been affected due to the suspension of internet services.
Police said five FIRs have been registered so far in connection with the violence and most are against unidentified persons. The search is on for the main accused Abdul Hamid, his sons Rinku alias Sarfaraz alias Salman and Faheem. Meanwhile, Divyang Satyavan Mishra (45), injured in Sunday's violence, was referred to Lucknow for treatment on Tuesday evening. The officer said he was first admitted to the Medical College Bahraich located at the district headquarters.
Intelligence team gathering information about rioters
An official said that Mishra was injured in his house. In a statement on Tuesday night, the Uttar Pradesh government said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was getting information every hour on the situation in Bahraich and he had instructed to deploy additional forces along with senior police and administration officials. According to officials, a control room has been set up and a survey is being conducted to help the affected people, while chaotic elements are being monitored through social media, additional intelligence teams are gathering information about the rioters.
