Shyam Benegal, the legendary director of Hindi cinema, born on 14 December 1934 in Hyderabad, passed away yesterday. The news of the sudden demise of the 90-year-old director has left the fans as well as the entire film industry in mourning. According to reports, the director and writer was suffering from a kidney-related disease for a long time. His daughter Pia Bajpai gave the news of his demise. 

 

Shyam Benegal was cremated at Shivaji Park crematorium in Mumbai on December 24. Where many stars and people from the film industry came together to pay their last respects to the director-producer. Many stars including Shabana Azmi paid tribute to him on social media. 

 

Naseeruddin Shah-Gulzar sahab's eyes became moist 

Many videos of Shyam Benegal 's last farewell have surfaced on social media. He was given a farewell with state honors. While bidding a final farewell to his director, on one hand Naseeruddin Shah's eyes became moist, on the other hand Gulzar sahab also looked very emotional with folded hands in front of his mortal remains.

Apart from these stars, many artists from the industry including Boman Irani, Vicky Kaushal's father Shyam Kaushal and Ila Arun attended his funeral.

 

Let us tell you that when Shyam Benegal brought his show 'Bharat Ek Khoj' on Doordarshan in 1988, Naseeruddin Shah also worked in it. He was very close to Shyam Benegal. 

 

Stars including Shabana Azmi and Akshay Kumar paid tribute 

After getting information about his death, many stars paid tribute to the veteran director on social media. Actress Shabana Azmi wrote, "Shyam Benegal ji has been like my guru, who influenced my approach to life along with acting. His departure is a huge loss.

 

Akshay Kumar wrote, "Very sad to hear about the demise of Shyam Benegal ji. He was one of the best filmmakers of our country, a legend. May your soul rest in peace". 

 

Shekhar Kapur wrote, "He created a new wave of cinema. Shyam Benegal will always be remembered as the man who changed the direction of Indian cinema with films like Ankur, Manthan and countless others. Goodbye my friend and guide.

 

Manoj Bajpayee wrote, "Shyam Benegal was not just a legend, he was a visionary who redefined the art of storytelling and inspired generations". 

Shyam Benegal made many great films

Shyam Benegal's first feature film was released in the year 1974. He worked in the film 'Ankur', for which he was awarded the National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film. After this, he did feature films like Charandas Chor, Nishant, Manthan, Bhumika, Junoon, Kalyug and Welcome to Sajjanpur. Apart from direction, he was also very good at writing.
