Monday fast is specially mentioned in Sanatan scriptures. It is believed that Mother Parvati, the goddess of the world, observed Monday fast to get Lord Shiva as her husband. By observing this fast, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were tied in the knot. During Monday fast, Mahadev should be worshipped with a true heart. Also, anoint the Shivling and offer things including garland. It is believed that by offering some things on Shivling (Shivling Puja Ke Niyam), the person has to face many problems in life. Therefore, during worship, one should avoid offering some things on Shivling (Shivling Par Kya Nahi Chadhana Chahiye).
Do not offer these things
- According to mythology, Lord Shiva killed demon Jalandhar, the husband of Mother Tulsi. This is why Tulsi leaves should not be offered on Shivlinga during worship.
- Turmeric is considered auspicious in Sanatan Dharma. It is used in auspicious and mangal works, but turmeric should not be offered on Shivling even by mistake. By doing this, the person is deprived of getting the full benefit of the worship.
- Apart from this, do not offer coconut water on Shivling. It is believed that anointing Mahadev with coconut water can make the Lord angry. Also, the person may have to face lack of money in life.
- One should also avoid offering broken rice on Shivling . It is believed that doing so can make Lord Shiva angry with the person.
- People anoint Lord Shiva with special things to please him, but do not anoint him by mixing sesame seeds in milk. There is a religious belief that the savior of the world was born from the union of Lord Vishnu and Shiva. This is why offering sesame seeds on Shivlinga is prohibited.
