Mumbai: After the film 'The Kerala Story', the fortunes of actress Adah Sharma have changed. Now she is living the phase which she had dreamt of when she made her debut in Hindi cinema 16 years ago. Her recently released web series 'Reeta Sanyal' on Disney Plus Hotstar is also a part of that dream. Deepesh Pandey had a special conversation with Adah about her show and this phase of her change.

Where do you find yourself now in comparison to the dreams with which you made your debut 16 years ago with the film '1920'?

When ' 1920 ' became a hit and received a lot of love from the audience, I thought that the next day I would get projects like 'Rita Sanyal', 'The Kerala Story' and 'Bastar', which did not happen. The things that I dreamed of achieving in two days took so many years to achieve, but I am happy that those dreams are being fulfilled now.

After 'The Kerala Story', is it a conscious strategy to take on projects that are mostly carried forward on your own shoulders?

This is not a strategy, but it is a very good thing for me that after 'The Kerala Story' people have started believing in me. Projects are being made keeping me in the center. Next I am going to do the sequel of a very big film. My only effort is that the role I am playing in the project should be well written and people should remember it.

What were the challenges of sporting and presenting so many different looks in 'Rita Sanyal'?

As an actor, it is your dream to play characters with different looks. I got to do all this in one project. I have ten looks in this show including the look of Rita Sanyal . Which includes many strange looks including food inspector, security guard, prostitute, fish seller, actress.

I have tried to make sure that not only the hairstyle and makeup look different in every look but also the body language and conversation style are different. I consider myself lucky that this is my third film this year after the film 'Bastar: The Naxal Story' and the web series 'Sunflower'.

After the film 'Commando', you did a lot of action in this show, how much does your martial arts training help in this?

I enjoy doing action. My role in this show is larger than life. I do things in the show that I don't do in real life. In the film 'Commando', most of my action scenes were hand-to-hand fighting. In this show, I have done action with things like Nunchak and Silambam. I often keep training for them in my personal life as well.

Have you ever had to face lawyers and courts in your personal life?

Yes, before signing any project, our lawyers read all our contracts first. I face such lawyers every day. After buying a house, I had to go to the court for its papers. That work can be done online from home, but on the advice of my broker, I went to the court and signed the papers. Earlier, when someone in my family did a court marriage, I had to go there.

'Bastar: The Naxal Story' could not make much of an impact at the box office, what was the impact of its failure?

As an actress, I can only do my work. I feel happy when my film gets good reviews and my work is appreciated. Other things are not in our hands. I only care about my work and how I can do it better.
