Thane: A case has been registered against choreographer Remo D'Souza, his wife and five others in Maharashtra's Thane district for duping a dance troupe of Rs 11.96 crore, police said on Saturday. Based on the complaint of the 26-year-old dancer, a case was registered against Remo, his wife Lizelle and five others at the Mira Road police station on October 16 under sections 465 (forgery), 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), an official said. According to the FIR, the complainant and his associates were allegedly cheated between 2018 and July 2024.

According to the FIR, the dance troupe had performed and won a television show. It alleged that the accused allegedly pretended that the group was theirs and swindled the prize money of Rs 11.96 crore. The other accused in the case are Omprakash Shankar Chauhan, Rohit Jadhav, Frame Production Company, Vinod Raut, a policeman and Ramesh Gupta, the official said. He said the investigation into the case was underway.

Remo D'Souza is the judge of the dance reality show

Apart from being a choreographer, Remo has been a judge on several dance reality shows since 2009. He was a judge on Dance India Dance, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Dance Ke Superstar, Dance Plus, Dance Champions, India's Best Dancer, DID Little Master and has judged several other dancing shows including DID Super Moms. Between 2018 and 2024, he has judged several shows including Dance Plus (Seasons 4, 5, 6), India's Best Dancer, Hip Hop India and Dance Plus Pro. Remo is currently preparing for the release of his Prime Video film Be Happy. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma in lead roles. Directed by Remo and produced by Lizelle, the film tells the story of a single father and his daughter. The film also stars Nora Fatehi, Nasser, Johnny Lever and Harleen Sethi.
