China has said that it is ready to enhance mutual cooperation by building on the understanding reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping during their bilateral talks on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia, after four years of frosty relations between the two countries.

This stagnation in relations has come due to the advancement of the Chinese army on the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh in 2020. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said, 'Recently President Jinping met Indian Prime Minister Modi in the Russian city of Kazan. Such meetings will also take place in the future.'

Ready to work together with India: China

The spokesperson said this in response to a question regarding a possible meeting between the two leaders during the G20 summit in Brazil. He clarified that he is currently not aware of the programme of the meeting between the two leaders during the G20 summit.

He said, 'China is ready to work together with India. For this, talks between the two leaders will pave the way. Both countries will increase dialogue and cooperation, after which there will be strategic cooperation based on mutual trust.'

A 50-minute long conversation took place in Kazan

It is noteworthy that before the 50-minute talks between the two leaders in Kazan, an agreement was reached on the withdrawal of the armies of both the countries from the LAC and joint patrolling. On the basis of this agreement, the Chinese army has withdrawn from Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh and the patrolling of Indian soldiers has started in the area. In the meeting of the two leaders, an agreement was reached to resolve the issues of disagreement through talks.

In the nearly 50-minute meeting held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Modi underlined the importance of properly resolving differences and disputes and not allowing peace and tranquility in border areas to be disturbed and said mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the basis of the relationship. Xi said China-India relations are essentially a question of how two large developing countries and neighbours with a population of 1.4 billion treat each other.
