Action Against Liquor Mafia: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recently talked about preparing a list of liquor smugglers. The police has started this on Friday (22 November). To strictly implement the liquor ban law in East Champaran district, Motihari police has taken a big step against liquor mafia.
The Superintendent of Police office had directed to prepare a panchayat-wise list of liquor mafias, under which active liquor mafias have been identified across the district. According to this list, a total of 9,538 people have been found involved in the illegal liquor trade, which is only 0.001 percent of the district's population of about 70 lakh.
Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat said that the number of absconding mafias in liquor cases in the district is 1,273, while 5,755 people are out on bail. Apart from this, 2,510 suspected active liquor mafias have been identified. The figures indicate that the network of liquor mafias is quite active in the district. At the same time, Motihari Police is constantly trying to strictly implement the liquor ban law.
After the panchayat-wise list is prepared, the Superintendent of Police has directed all the police station in-charges to arrest the absconding liquor mafias as soon as possible, take action for their surrender and confiscation of their property. Apart from this, the businessmen released on bail will be kept under strict surveillance and orders have been given to bind them down to Rs 5-10 lakh as well as put their names in the goonda register. Their goonda parade will also be conducted in the police station every Sunday, so that their activities can be strictly monitored.
The police has also intensified action against those suspected active liquor mafias who were out of the reach of the police till now. Information is being collected against these businessmen and legal action will be initiated soon. Motihari Police has appealed to all the people involved in liquor smuggling to join the mainstream of the society and improve their lives.
At the same time, Gopalganj police has announced a reward on 50 liquor mafias of UP-Bihar. Apart from Gopalganj, these include liquor mafias from neighboring districts including Kushinagar, Deoria of neighboring state Uttar Pradesh. Cases of smuggling are registered against liquor mafias in various police stations.
