Pitru Paksha has started from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha i.e. 18 September 2024. According to Garuda Purana, at this time our ancestors come to earth and remove the sorrows of everyone. This important time ends with Sarvapitri Amavasya. After this, the ancestors go back to their abode Pitru Lok. Do these things on the third day of Pitru Paksha (Rules of Shraddha Paksha)

• Do perform the worship rituals related to ancestors like Pitra Tarpan, charity and Pinddaan.
• Those who have Pitra Dosh in their horoscope can perform Pind Daan for the salvation of their ancestors.
• Taking bath in River Ganga during this time is considered auspicious.
• During this period, feeding food to cows, crows and dogs is considered extremely virtuous.
• At this time, feed the needy people and help them.
• Invite Brahmins at home and give them food, clothes and Dakshina.
• Organise Gayatri recitation for the peace of ancestors.
• Do not insult any guest who comes to your house.
• Maintain purity of mind and home.
• Do not disrespect mother cow even by mistake.
• Do as much worship as possible.

1. ॐ Tatpurushaya विद्महे Mahadevaya धीमहि तन्नो Rudra: prachodaya.

2. ॐ Pitraganaya विद्महे Jagat Dharini धीमहि तन्नो Pitru prachodayat.

3. ॐ To the gods, the ancestors and the great yogis. "Om Svahayai Svadhai I always offer my obeisances to you"
