In view of the level of pollution in Delhi, physical classes of class 10th and 12th will also remain closed. Delhi CM Atishi announced this. This will come into effect from Tuesday (19 November). Classes of 10th and 12th will run online. The fourth phase of GRAP has been implemented in Delhi. Under this, physical classes of all schools except 10th and 12th were closed earlier. But now classes of 10th and 12th will also run online.
Stage-4 of GRAP was implemented in Delhi on Sunday. The level of pollution in the capital has crossed the 'very severe' category. As part of various measures being taken to deal with the serious situation of pollution, the Delhi government has ordered to keep schools closed and conduct online classes for students.
On Monday, the pollution level reached the worst level of this season. In such a situation, experts have raised concerns about health risks. Doctors have advised people to limit outdoor activities, ensure adequate fluids in the body and use air purifiers with HEPA filters to reduce the level of solid particles indoors. They have advised that people already facing lung or heart problems should be cautious and keep taking their medicines.
Delhi's air quality deteriorated on Monday and areas like Dwarka, Mundka and Najafgarh recorded a maximum air quality index (AQI) of 500 during the afternoon. People complained of itching and watery eyes as a thick blanket of smog engulfed the national capital.
The AQI here was recorded at 484 at 8 am on Monday. The AQI has reached the worst level so far this season. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI was recorded at 491 by 2 pm. Dr Rajat Sharma, resident doctor of community medicine at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, said, "At this level of pollution, wearing an N95 mask is not an option but a necessity. Even healthy people can fall prey to respiratory diseases and face other health complications."
