Kanyakumari: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening began a 45-hour meditation session at the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of the country.
After addressing an election rally in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, the PM reached Kanyakumari directly by helicopter and then offered prayers at the Bhagavathi Amman Temple. After that, he boarded a boat and reached the Vivekananda Rock Memorial located on a rock in the sea about 500 meters from the coast and started meditation which will continue till June 1.

It is known that after the end of the election campaign in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi meditated in the cave of Kedarnath. Earlier in the afternoon, Modi, wearing a dhoti and a white shawl, prayed at the Amman temple and circumambulated the sanctum sanctorum. The priests performed a special aarti and gave him temple prasad, which included a shawl and a framed photo of the main deity of the temple.

After this, Modi reached the Rock Memorial and started his meditation at the 'Dhyan Mandapam'. Before starting the meditation, Prime Minister Modi stood for some time on the stairs leading to the Mandapam, from where a beautiful view of the sea surrounding the memorial is visible. After the completion of the meditation on June 1, before leaving Kanyakumari, Modi will probably also visit the statue of Tamil poet Tiruvalluvar located next to the memorial.
2,000 policemen deployed for security
Meanwhile, tight security arrangements have been made in view of Modi's 45-hour meditation program at the famous memorial named after Swami Vivekananda. Along with 2,000 policemen, various security agencies are keeping a close watch on every inch. Not only this, the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy are also keeping a vigil on the maritime borders.

This is the first time that the Prime Minister will be staying at the memorial. This memorial has been built in the memory of Swami Vivekananda, who after touring the country, meditated on these rocks under the sea for three days in late 1892 and dreamt of a developed India.
